Obituary for Fred Sobey of Poteau
Fredrick L. “Fred” Sobey of Poteau was born Nov. 28, 1940 in Golden, Colorado to Richard John Sobey and Martha B. (Bader) Purvis and passed away July 13, 2024 in Poteau at the age of 83.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Dowden Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener.
There will be a memorial table along with a register book in memory of Fred for friends to sign from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m., along with a visitation with friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Fred was a longtime resident of the area and a musician. He enjoyed the outdoors and sitting by the fire. Fred loved music, fishing, hunting, and hanging out with his family. He will deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by one daughter Michele Fredrickson and husband David of Poteau;
One sister, Sarah B. Wall, of Denver, Colorado;
Three grandchildren Jacob, Coy and Kodie Fredrickson

Service planned for William Swiney
Graveside service for William T. Swiney, 92, of Spiro is 10 a.m. Wednesday at Greenhill Cemetery in Cameron with Reverend Jim Cook officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenhill Cemetery, under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
He was born Jan. 8, 1932 in Harrisburg, Arkansas to Pearlie May (Walker) Swiney and Douglas S. Swiney and passed away July 14, 2024 in Spiro.
He was a resident of Panama and Spiro for 40 years where he owned and operated a tire shop at sunset corner. He loved to play guitar, hunt, fish, garden, and was a prolific storyteller.
Survivors include his children Jim Swiney, Tom Swiney and wife Pricilla, Pat Hager and husband Ronald, Laurie Boivin and husband Rod, Linda Kaquatosh and husband John, Lisa Swiney, and Lela Schwitzer and husband Steven; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Pat Swiney; three sons; one daughter; one brother; and two sisters.
Visitation is Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
