Lady Wolves go 1-1 in LCT
PANAMA—Heavener’s girls split a pair of games as the slow pitch softball LeFlore County Tournament got off to an abbreviated start Tuesday.
Games were scheduled at Panama and a pair of other locations, but Panama was the only place with fields able to be played on after heavy rain Monday night.
Heavener, now 11-5, avenged an earlier loss to Panama with a 13-1 win over Panama before losing to Howe in the second round, 12-2.
Locations and a schedule have not been determined yet. We will post the updated schedule as soon as possible.
In the opener against Panama, Heavener jumped ahead 7-0 and never let the Lady Backs back into the game.

ROLAND—Heavener split a pair of District 3A-7 baseball games at Roland Tuesday.
The two teams were supposed to play one game at Heavener Monday, but it was postponed until Tuesday due to traffic fears affiliated with the eclipse.
Heavener is now 5-14 overall, 3-5 in district play and is scheduled to play in the Kiowa Tournament this weekend. Roland is 7-11 and 3-7.
In the opener, Roland’s Carson Wiggins, who has signed to pitch at the University of Arkansas, threw a one hitter in a 6-0 win before the Wolves bounced back to dump the Rangers, 10-2, in the second contest.
Brintley Hash got Heavener’s lone hit, a double, as Wiggins struck out 17 Wolves in the win. Bryce Morrison went three innings, allowing five hits and four runs, all earned, with three strikeouts and no walks. Cowboys top Wichita State again
WICHITA, Kan. – Oklahoma State picked up its second midweek win over Wichita State this season with a 9-5 victory over the Shockers Tuesday night at Riverfront Stadium.
With the win, the 20th-ranked Cowboys improved to 22-11, while WSU fell to 19-14.
OSU had eight hits in the contest and took advantage of 12 walks and three hit batters. Carson Benge was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, and Nolan Schubart had two hits and three RBIs to lead the Cowboys.
Ryan Bogusz earned the win in relief as the right-hander improved to 1-1 with 2 1/3 shutout innings in which he allowed two hits and a walk to go along with a strikeout.
OSU jumped out to an early lead as Jaxson Crull led off the game with a single, and Zach Ehrhard walked. Up next, Benge ripped an RBI double to right field to put the Pokes up 1-0.
The Cowboys extended their lead in the second inning, taking advantage of WSU’s inability to find the strike zone as the Shockers issued three walks and hit two batters. That led to three runs for OSU, with Aidan Meola, Nolan Schubart and Avery Ortiz picking up RBIs to give the visitors a 4-0 lead.
With OSU leading 5-0, the Shockers finally got on the board in the fifth, getting a leadoff walk and three consecutive singles to plate a pair of runs.
The Pokes got a run back in the sixth when Schubart led off the inning with his sixth home run of the season over the right field wall to make the score 6-2.
OSU posted another three-run inning in the eighth, with Schubart and Kollin Ritchie collecting RBI hits to extend the lead to seven.
The Cowboys return to action Friday when they open a weekend series against Cincinnati at O’Brate Stadium. Both the Friday and Saturday contests are scheduled for 6 p.m. starts, while Sunday’s finale is a noon first pitch.
Sooners top Mavericks
NORMAN – Oklahoma baseball returned to the win column with a 11-9 win Tuesday night over UT Arlington at L. Dale Mitchell Park in Norman.
The OU (18-14, 8-4 Big 12) offense racked up 11 runs on 13 hits, while the Sooner pitching staff utilized 11 pitchers on the night, combining for 12 strikeouts.
The Sooners got on the board early, putting up four runs on two hits and a UTA (14-19, 9-6 WAC) error in the first after OU starting RHP Carson Atwood retired the side in order to start the game.
After a HBP and pair of walks, an errant throw to third base from the Mav catcher allowed senior Bryce Madron to race home. Two batters later, a sacrifice fly RBI from fellow senior Kendall Pettis scored OU’s second run of the frame. Freshman Jaxon Willits followed up with a two-run single to center, continuing his hot streak at the plate to make it 4-0, Sooners, through one.
Following a scoreless second inning where senior RHP Will Carsten put the Mavericks down in order, the OU bats put up five runs on six hits. Junior Jackson Nicklaus led off the frame with a single to center and stole second, before a Pettis sacrifice bunt moved him to third and a Willits sac-bunt plated him. Another pair of base hits led to a pair of RBI singles for senior Anthony Mackenzie and Madron. After Madron stole second, sophomore Easton Carmichael doubled him in with a knock to left center to make it 9-0 through three.
UT Arlington broke up the shutout in the fourth, scoring a pair on a double down the left line and wild pitch.
Scoreless fifth and sixth innings ensued as relievers Dylan Crooks and Ryan Lambert combined to strand a pair of Mavericks.
In the seventh, after UTA plated two in the top half, the Sooners got both runs back at the bottom of the inning. After freshman Isaiah Lane registered his third hit of the contest, adding to his first multi-hit game of his young career, Mackenzie ripped an RBI triple down the alley in right. The next at-bat, Mackenzie raced home on a wild pitch for the second run of the inning.
After trailing by seven runs entering the ninth, UTA would attempt a rally by scoring five runs in the ninth, capped by a grand slam before junior RHP Brendan Girton entered and collected the final out.
Relievers Jett Lodes, Reid Hensley, Jacob Gholston, Brad Pruett and Girton closed the contest for the Sooners. Lambert earned the win in relief, hurling 1.1 scoreless innings with one strikeout. Carsten and sophomore Malachi Witherspoon each fanned a game-high three, while transfer RHP Jason Bollman saw his second appearance of the season and struck out a pair.
Lane and Mackenzie paced OU at the plate, each putting up 3-for-4 performances with Mackenzie bringing in a pair of runs. Willits plated a trio while Carmichael brought in two.
OU is back in action this weekend as the Sooners return to conference play to host Kansas State (20-10, 7-5 Big 12). Friday’s first pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. CT before a 4 p.m. start Saturday and 2 p.m. finale on Sunday.
All three home games can be seen via SoonerVision on ESPN+ and heard locally in Oklahoma on SportsTalk 1400 AM/99.3 FM or nationwide on The Varsity app.
For the Fans: Series promotions abound for this weekend’s K-State series, highlighted by Party at the Ballpark on Saturday featuring music, food trucks and more beyond the outfield fences on Asp Ave. from 12 p.m. until first pitch at 4 p.m. CT.

Bybee, Hogs' win over Spartans
FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas. – Ben Bybee struck out four over five innings of one-run ball to lead No. 1 Arkansas (28-3) to a 5-1 midweek win against San Jose State (12-20) and to its program-record 22nd consecutive win at Baum-Walker Stadium.
With Tuesday night’s win, the Razorbacks improve to 28-3 overall on the season, their best 31-game start in program history. Arkansas’ 28 wins through its first 31 games of the season surpasses its 27-2-2 record in 1982, when head coach Dave Van Horn was the team’s starting second baseman and the Southwest Conference Newcomer of the Year.
Making his second start of the year, Bybee matched his career high with five innings of work on the mound. The right-hander limited the Spartans to a run on two hits, including a solo homer, while striking out four and issuing zero walks.
Bybee, who earned the win to move to 2-0 on the season, has recorded a 1.00 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 9.0 innings over three games. The sophomore from Overland Park, Kan., is limiting opposing hitters to a .133 batting average this year.
After falling behind by a run in the second, Arkansas posted a three-spot in the bottom half of the inning thanks to RBI hits from Peyton Stovall and Nolan Souza. Stovall tied the game at one with his two-out RBI single to right before Souza, the reigning SEC Freshman of the Week, gave the Hogs a 3-1 lead with his two-out, two-RBI double to right center.
Stovall, who finished 2-for-5 with an RBI, was one of two Razorbacks with multiple hits in Tuesday’s win. Wehiwa Aloy, who clobbered his team-leading ninth home run of the season via a solo shot in the fifth, also went 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Souza, meanwhile, finished 1-for-2 with a team-leading two RBI and a team-high three walks. For the season, the true freshman from Honolulu, Hawai’i, is now slashing a team-best .362/.493/.741 with six homers and 20 RBI in 21 games.
Ben McLaughlin extended the Hogs’ advantage in the bottom of the third with his leadoff home run to center. The Razorback first baseman, who connected on his fifth homer of the year, finished 1-for-4 on the night.
In relief of Bybee, Christian Foutch (1.0 IP, 2 SO), Gage Wood (1.0 IP, 1 SO), Hunter Dietz (0.1 IP, 1 SO) and Stone Hewlett (1.2 IP, 2 SO) emerged from the bullpen and combined for four scoreless with six strikeouts to secure the 5-1 win.
Due to impending rain in the area, first pitch in tomorrow’s double midweek series finale between Arkansas and San Jose State is now 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, on SEC Network+. The game was originally scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
