Today’s Bible verse
Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
--Psalms 34:14
Blast from the past
Hall about it
I can never thank all of our supporters enough. There have been people supporting my coverage of the area for over 10 years and you are thanked. Tremendously.
Unfortunately, some people probably either thank I disappeared or could care less that I am still trying to do my best to provide coverage to local and area events.
I am proud to say I did cover all 11 of Heavener’s football games and one for Poteau, although it was a disaster.
Why? It was the worst stream ever. Looking back, I probably try to stream too much and don’t cover the events like I used too. But now people expect the games to be televised and if we have a problem, like during Friday night’s game with Spiro, my phone lights up.
My plan is to get help from the students. We have a student interested in announcing and we just need a steady video person and we should be able to video all the games at Heavener (knock on wood), and I can still cover the games like I want to.
I never expected it, but I like the kids that I try to teach. I have a good group and don’t have any kids who are trouble makers, plus, they seem interested in what I try to teach them, or at least do a good job of faking it.
I am trying to spotlight a photo from the past everyday. If you have one, please send it by email to craig@heavenerledger.com.
I am still told by people how much they miss a printed paper for Heavener. I miss it also. But I figure it would cost around $500 per week to have a newspaper and I do not know if we could do that since one of my sponsors since I first started no longer advertises with us.
The economy is not great. If I ever did something, it would be more localized, mainly covering Heavener, Howe, Poteau and Wister with some coverage of the rest of the county thrown in. I would do things completely different. Your major costs in running a newspaper, other than a location, is personnel, printing and distribution.
I can get by without the personnel and distribution costs for the most part, it is the printing cost and time involved that would be difficult.
So, yes, I know I am missing half of the market. But until somebody much smarter than I am can figure out how to make everything work, I will continue with the website and newsletter. I really think the newsletter is the future, although I realize many people do not have internet or computers.
My non-job income has shrunk, but so have my expenses, which is a good thing.
If you guys do like our newsletter and website, please share them with anybody you think might be interested. I don’t care what anybody says, the best marketing is word of mouth, and your help would be appreciated.
It was a nice brisk 6 degrees this morning, according to my outside temperature. It is not the coldest temperature I have experienced, although it is close. I remember when I was a much younger Craigman and I would visit an elderly person and it felt like it was a sauna inside their house. I understand why now. Which raises a problem since I am taking blood thinners and freeze if the temperature is below 50 and Trish the Wife wants it cold.
I try to hike the heat when she isn’t watching, but usually get caught and eventually the house is back to being frigid for me, since I am a wimp.
Be careful out there and check on your older relatives and other old goats (and I don’t mean greatest of all time) to make sure everybody is warm and has enough food and water.
