She was born Sept. 1, 1947 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Ola Mae (Caldwell) Prescott and Richard Prescott, Sr. and passed away Jan. 24, 2024 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Survivors include her sons, Joe Gunter, and David Gunter; daughter, Cynthia Hooper and husband Ryan; 8 grandchildren, Farrin Whited and husband Darris, Rebecca Gasparotto and wife Rachel, Jessica Oliver and husband Dalson, Tiffany Gunter, Joey Gunter, Cody Gunter, Dillon Gunter and wife Megan, Sarah Musteen; seven great grandchildrenand siblings, Roger Prescott, Linda Prescott, Mary Horn and Kenneth Prescott.

She was born Oct. 29, 1948 in Guthrie to Olive June (Dodd) and Tandy Lee Shaw and passed away Jan. 20, 2024 in Panama.

He was born on Valentine’s Day in 1952, the son of Richard Paul and Emma (Latta) Baldwin and passed away Jan. 20, 2024.

Virginia Corby
Graveside service for Virginia Mae Corby, 92, of Heavener was Tuesday at the Monroe Cemetery with Jim Cook officiating. Burial followed at the Monroe Cemetery, under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
She was born Aug. 26, 1931 in Wister to Evvie (Jones) Cagle and John M. Cagle and passed away Jan. 19, 2024 in Heavener.
Survivors include children, Steve and wife Kit Corby, Ramona and husband Gary Wineinger Michael Corby and wife Rose, Mary Corby, Cecelia and husband Stan Shinkle; 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and seven great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd V. Corby; son Robert Corby; siblings, Jewel Tague, Bill Cagle, Helen Odell, Mildred Cox, Jay Cagle and Edith Cagle.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Lance Wineinger, Aaron Corby, Andy Estoquia, James McKnight, James Markham, Nick Williams, Levi Williams, Hunter Williams and Aidan Wineinger.
Heinz Van Pelt
Heinz Van Pelt, 84, of the Glendale community in Heavener passed away Jan. 12, 2024 at Baptist Health Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas with family by his side.
No services are scheduled at this time.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener.
Heinz was born April 17, 1939 in Oppala, Germany. During WWII, his mother, Anna (Jersch) met and married an American GI, John Allen Van Pelt. John adopted Heinz and thought of him as his own. Heinz followed in his dads footsteps and joined the Army in 1958. Heinz met Betty Sue Walter in 1956, fell in love and they married in 1959. From this union came four children Fred, Grace, Peggy and Laura.
Heinz put in for multiple overseas tours in order to keep his family together. In doing so, they were able to see the world Italy, Norway, Germany, and stateside Arizona, Kansas, Arkansas, and North Carolina.
Heinz retired in 1978 and moved his family to the Glendale area. He began working at Lake Wister State Park. After retiring from there, Heinz and Betty set out to see the United States with their puppies, Missy and Lucy.
Left to honor his memory are his wife, Betty, of the home; son Fred and wife Sharon of Elmer; three daughters Grace Van Pelt of the Glendale community, Peggy Kimbrel of Martha and Laura Holson of Disney; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
